The Baukultur Report 2024/25 focuses on three subjects: “Infrastructure as a basis for life”, “Mobility infrastructures” and “Processes and structures”, looking at closely interwoven types of infrastructure. Topics include the importance of civil engineering for civilisation; the technical, functional and aesthetic demands placed on civil engineering works; training; and the working methods of individuals involved in planning and construction. Services of general interest, digitalisation, multifunctionality and the conversion and repair of existing structures are themes recurring across all chapters. The focus is always on built processes before, during and after realisation. Legal, economic, political and societal demands are viewed in the context of urgent areas for action. When it comes to infrastructure for the common good, what is at stake is nothing less than our future – and the opportunity to better design our environment.
